Dear Orange Community Education and Recreation Families,
We are excited to provide an update regarding the property and facilities at 30800 Chagrin Boulevard, known as New Directions. On July 2, 2026, we were made aware that New Directions, formerly a residential addiction and recovery treatment facility here in Pepper Pike, was for sale, and the District supported OCER’s interest in the property. I am excited to share that the property owner, Crossroads Health, has proposed a purchase agreement for the property.
OCER’s primary objective in pursuing this acquisition is to create much-needed growth opportunities for OCER programming, including Art and Senior Center services, as well as providing flexibility for the District's long-term planning. To ensure maximum alignment with community needs and operational efficiency, OCER will conduct a comprehensive facility fit study. This essential evaluation will formally assess physical space requirements, structural capabilities, and overall site potential to determine the optimal long-term programmatic use of the facilities.
On behalf of OCER, the school board will consider the proposed agreement at its November 9, 2026 regularly scheduled 6:00pm meeting at the Pepper Pike Learning Center. As a reminder, please note that while the Board of Education and District treasurer serve as the governing board and fiscal agent for OCER, OCER operates on separate funding generated by the OCER “Rec. Levy” and program participation fees. District operating revenue does not fund OCER programs.
If the purchase agreement is approved, we will announce communication and plans for stakeholder engagement as OCER works with the Recreation Commission and other stakeholders to gather input for developing and repurposing the New Directions space!
We appreciate the community's continued support as we work to secure this unique opportunity for our students, residents, and the future of OCER.
Sincerely,
Jessica Gift
Director of OCER
